Today would have been my grandfather's 84th birthdhay. So I decided to draw him as he looked in the 80s, with a perm.

Lighting Test Jail
Wanted to start getting back into digital painting, I set out with no real goals, though I think now I want to try and play with lighting and atmosphere and color.

Laura Portrait 2012 2
I was not really happy with the last portrait that I did last time so I decided to make another one today. I think this one turned out much cuter.

2012 Selfportrait
I am trying to start making art early in the morning, and I am usually dressed and look kinda like this. This Year I have resolved to post art more regularly on my blog and I though that the new year required a new portrait. Also in an effort to make art more regularly I am going to try and do some 30 minute or Less digital paintings in the hopes of being faster and having the bar for completing art being lowered so I get more done.

Failed Portrait of My Brother Alex
My brother Alex asked me to do a portrait for him for his sound engineering demo, until recently I have been super busy. I found a free night to work on he portrait.
He didn't like it.
Kinda makes me want to do a series of failed portraits... But how can I be assured that they will fail. More to come later.

FAF: Wolverine Portrait

WOLVERINE!
It has been a while since I have posted one of the these, and by all means this is a meager offering, but I am trying to get back into blogging and posting art. The best way to get back in is to just do it so here is the first of many Fan Art Fridays!

Captain Cadaver portrait 01
I am working on a comic book project with my friend Wes and this is a portrait of the main character. I was trying to do something like Dan Hipp, who's style got me really inspired to work on this project again. It has been sitting on my back burner for a while. Mr. Hipp does a technique where he is uses dashed lines for shading, I took that technique and went over board with it and did it with multiple colors. I don't feel like it works. Though I understand why and I hope to make it better next time. There will be more on Captain Cadaver in the near future.

Tattooed Sailor Girl
Originally this was going to be part of a post I was going to do on 10.10.10. where it was a series of 3 pinups all 10s (get it?) however, my homework ended up taking longer and I had some problems making art during the week so I have decided to simply post them all separately as I make them.
I have have a series of Sailor Girl pinup sketches sitting around for a long time and I have been meaning to finish one. This surprisingly was not one of them, after having so much fun illustrating the Tattoo Style Gilda Head I felt like drawing another portrait like that. I gave her that expression channeling Popeye the Sailor Man. I tried to giver her all traditional sailor tattoos. I had added the 10s for the 10 theme I was going for, though with what I have planned for my next pinup it ended up becoming more of a playing card theme.

The Best Wing Man
Today is the 3rd anniversary of my Best friend Pat "Hetic" death. If you remember him share some feelings on his Face Book fan page.
Before Pat died, he would sit around joking about him becoming a ghost and helping me out after he died. He said he would haunt Stan Lee and all the comic executives to get me a job. When he was alive he was my wing man, I would like to think he tries to continue that role from beyond the grave.

I miss you so much and wish you were still here to be my wing man, there is no better then you my dear dear friend.

Big Sip Self Portrait
So after working on the portraits of Vear and Tu-Anh with big puffy cheeks (well Vear technically had big droopy jowls) of course it wouldn't be long until I would make one of me, being the ego maniac that I am. I imagine I'm taking a big sip and some one is telling me something horrible and this is right before I do a spit take right in their face.

Laura's Bert Impersonation
Laura often has this picture of Bert from Sesame Street, that she found on tumbler, as her status message with the note, "This is how I feel."

Looking for a quick project to work on and realized I haven't done a portrait of Laura in a while I decided to do one of her looking like Bert in this picture. Thinking it would be good for a laugh if nothing else.
I then formatted it like like the image if Bert. This is a look I am all too familiar with.

Tu-anh Likes Cookies
So after making the portrait of Vear, being "Ol' Jowly" my friend Tu-anh said "Ok now do a dummy-looking Tu-Anh too :D" so that was just what I did.

What I think Vear Thinks He Looks Like 01
So I was wasting my life on facebook, as I am apt to do from time to time. My friend Vear had posted pictures of himself from a night of revely with some friends and he posted one of him self that he titled, "Ol' Jowly." Now perhaps this is an inside joke that I am not into. I instead like to think that Chris thinks he has jowls, big droopy jowls.
Jowls (noun)
1. The lower part of a person's or animal's cheek, esp. when it is fleshy or drooping.
So maybe he is talking about him smiling showing off his bottom cheeks. Well anyway here is what I think Vear thinks he looks like based off of this picture and the title. I added the bowler to class up the picture. This took me about a half an hour.

Viking Portrait: Ikvar the Black
I was looking though one of my many sketch books and found a couple of Viking faces staring back and me. The first one I decided to complete was a profile picture, because I haven't seem to have done too many of these.
This is Ikvar the Black, if I recall viking history correctly men would get the name the Black because of the color of their hair. I imagined that Ikvar would be a hard and quiet man who some didn't trust, but in truth he was the most trust worthy in the party. Sadly, this wasn't realized until it was too late for Ikvar.

Back in the saddle: The Lone Undead Ranger
It has almost been a month since I last posted something. I decided to get back in the saddle and keep up to date on my blog and keep churning out art work. A friend of mine is working on a zombie comic and my brother just got Red Dead Redemption, which I have been playing, so I think those two ideas got fused in my head and I felt compelled to make the Lone Ranger a Zombie. Though those two ideas are also personified in Undead or Alive the movie, which I highly recommend.
